# Claim

Sample payloads for claim.success and claim.failed.

The claim events fire when an insurance claim you filed is approved or rejected.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**`claim.success` and `claim.failed` are currently dispatched without a `data` object.** The envelope arrives as `{ "event": "claim.success" }` with no payload. Until this is corrected, treat the event as a signal and fetch the claim with [Get Claim](/tship/claims/get-claim.md) using the `insurance_id` you already hold.
{% endhint %}

### What is delivered today

```javascript
{
    "event": "claim.success"
}
```

### The claim object

When the payload is populated, it carries the claim in the shape [Get Claim](/tship/claims/get-claim.md) returns. `status` is `confirmed` for `claim.success` and `failed` for `claim.failed`.

```javascript
{
    "event": "claim.success",
    "data": {
        "claim_id": "CL-40756356455",
        "insurance": "IN-70732333028",
        "reason": "lost-in-transit",
        "description": "Package was lost in transit by DHL Express Courier in the United States",
        "status": "confirmed",
        "witnesses": [
            ["Adaeze Ukaegbu", "+2348100000001"],
            ["Augustus Obi", "+2348100000002"]
        ],
        "metadata": {
            "platform": "octamile",
            "reference": "cha54a60rgsacdz2",
            "insurance_reference": "ild52fsgkfs8uu3gr736ikl2fe9s93jn"
        },
        "created_at": "2026-09-16T21:21:29.302Z",
        "updated_at": "2026-09-19T08:12:03.441Z"
    }
}
```

{% hint style="info" %}
The stored claim also holds a `signature` field containing a base64 image. It is large, and you should not rely on receiving it over a webhook.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.terminal.africa/tship/miscallaneous/sample-webhook-event-payloads/claim.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
